The sapphire at the centre gives the whole look its colour — the rest of the piece is left colourless on purpose. A line of round-cut diamonds runs the full length; at the centre hangs a detachable pendant — a radiant-cut sapphire in 18K yellow gold prongs beneath two round diamonds. Without it the necklace is worn on its own. The radiant cut was devised for colour: its facets gather the hue towards the centre, so the stone reads richer than it would in a step cut.
